KASA’s Winter Aid Campaign: Providing Warmth to Families in Need

kasakurdan@gmail.com November 1, 2025

Winter is the harshest season for families already living close to the edge. Heating costs spike, and families who cannot afford them face a genuine choice between warmth and other necessities. KASA’s winter aid campaign was built in response to this reality — a focused effort each year to identify families facing heating difficulties and get them the equipment and fuel they need before temperatures drop to dangerous levels.

The campaign operates primarily through referrals from community networks. Kurdish families in the diaspora tend to know when a neighbor is struggling, and KASA relies on that informal knowledge to direct aid to the people who most need it. We supplement this with outreach through mosques, community centers, and social media, trying to make sure that families who are isolated or who are too proud to ask for help are still reached.

Heating equipment — portable gas stoves, fuel canisters, electric heaters — is sourced through a combination of direct purchase and in-kind donations from community members and local businesses. The logistics of getting equipment to families in different cities requires volunteer networks in each location. It is not a simple operation, but it is a necessary one, and every family that stays warm through a winter because KASA was there is a reminder of why we do this work.
