Aid Beyond Food: KASA’s Broader Support Services

kasakurdan@gmail.com January 15, 2026

Food is the most visible part of KASA’s humanitarian work, but it is not the whole of it. Kurdish Americans face challenges that go beyond food access: navigating immigration paperwork, understanding healthcare options, dealing with employment discrimination, finding schools and programs for children with special needs, managing the practical consequences of domestic crises. KASA is not a law firm or a social services agency, but we are often the first call a family makes when something goes wrong.

Our approach to these broader needs is to connect rather than to do. When a family needs immigration legal advice, we connect them to pro bono immigration lawyers we have relationships with. When someone needs help navigating a school system for a child with a learning difference, we help them identify the resources and, if necessary, show up with them to the school meeting. We are the bridge between families who trust us and systems they do not yet know how to navigate.

This work is less visible than food distribution but no less important. The family that keeps its housing, the person who gets the healthcare they need, the child who ends up in the right school program — these outcomes are as significant as any food package, and they are made possible by the same community trust that KASA has built over years of consistent presence.
