IT Education in Rojava: Supporting the Next Generation of Tech Professionals

Software development is one of the most portable skills in the modern economy. A developer who can write clean code in C# or build web applications in PHP can find work in Austin or Amsterdam or Ankara — the skill crosses borders in a way that many other professional qualifications do not. This is one reason KASA has invested in supporting IT education programs that train young people in Rojava for careers in the technology sector.

The program addresses a specific gap. Rojava has been through enormous disruption over the past decade, and the educational infrastructure that would normally prepare a generation of technology professionals has been severely damaged. Young people with the aptitude and the ambition to work in software do not always have access to the instruction that would develop those abilities. KASA works to bridge that gap through structured programming courses covering foundational languages and development practices.

The goal is not just to teach coding skills but to connect participants to an international Kurdish professional network, to mentors who have succeeded in technology careers, and to the broader community of Kurdish Americans who can offer guidance and support. Technology education is also a form of cultural investment — building the capacity of the next generation to contribute on global terms while remaining connected to their community.
